About Taylor Pass Manuka Honey
TAYLOR PASS HONEY IS THE BRAND WHICH CONNECTS YOU DIRECTLY TO THE SOURCE, TO THE BEEKEEPER, THE BEEHIVE AND BEES. THE WAY WE SEE IT, IT’S ALL CONNECTED: THIS UNIQUE LAND, THE BEES AND US.
Bringing unique New Zealand Floral and Manuka together within one brand
We have been building our intimate knowledge of beekeeping for over 27 years, since the day an elderly gentleman gifted our founder his first hive when he was just 14 years old.
Over the years, our supply and honey processing capacity has grown through our knowledge, understanding and relationships. By 2009 we began our own distribution – selling directly to consumers throughout New Zealand, Europe and Asia – connecting us directly to the people who bought our product.
Vertically integrated business
We caretake 10,000+ beehives. Unlike many other honey operations, we own the beehives, have our own extraction facility and bottling plant. We market and proudly sell our brand directly to you. From hive to table. Our Taylor Pass Honey beekeepers are experts in their field and know exactly when to collect the honey, based on the flowering of the surrounding plants and balance this carefully with caring for the bees. They are skilled in reading the environment and place the beehives in the best locations, based on this knowledge. It’s this expertise which enables us to collect high-quality monofloral honey.
Unlike many other countries, including the US, it is forbidden in New Zealand to use antibiotics in the treatment of beehives. Taylor Pass Honey is antibiotic-free.
Beekeeping for honey, not pollination
In NZ, the purpose of caring for hives is to collect honey, whereas, in many other countries, including the US, the focus is pollination. In the US for example, beehives are loaded on trucks and driven across the country to follow pollination needs and honey is often a by-product. However, in NZ, honey is our focus, which is why we have such an emphasis on the health of our hives and bees. These are critical to the success of our harvest and the quality of our honey. Our beekeepers are passionate about this. Beekeeping in New Zealand is a craft, using traditional practices, rather than industrialised farming practices.
What is Manuka Honey?
Mānuka is a Maori word. Maori is the indigenous language of NZ. Manuka Honey comes from the nectar of the flower of the Mānuka bush which is native to New Zealand. Mānuka honey has many recognised health attributes and in particular antibacterial properties with a lot of research around topical skin treatments. Many also talk about gastric support and many more health attributes
Not all Manuka Honey created equal
Taylor Pass Manuka Honey carries the UMF® trademark. Only honey carrying the UMF® trademark has been certified by an independent association giving consumers confidence that they are purchasing genuine Manuka honey that has been harvested and packed in New Zealand.
